What makes a good Account Manager?

You need to understand people. You need to be able to read them and judge situations. You need a good level of emotional intelligence.

You need to be able to spot when a client needs something different to what they are actually asking for and when it’s just a case of simply carrying out a request.  You need to recognise the individual skills, experience and expertise of the people you work with and involve the right people in the right situations at the right times.

You need to be able to build trust and respect in the people you work with and for, so they seek your advice and support. You need to be able to spot opportunities with clients and prospects, establish what is important to them, what they need, and sometimes… what they really need but were never aware of.

Does this sound a bit like you? You see, we are looking for this sort of person – the right person.

Perhaps you already have experience as an Account Manager? Perhaps your experience lies more in delivery of projects, but this sounds like the right sort of step for you? Perhaps you just know you are right?

It’s a given that you will need excellent communication skills and be well organised.  A natural confidence is important as you will need to establish rapports and relationships with clients, be comfortable with networking situations, as well as presentations.

The work will be varied, spanning events and exhibition projects and all associated channels. Awareness and understanding of these is essential, but being a technical or delivery expert isn’t.
